CODE OF CONDUCT

OBJECTIVE - Providing a safe, nurturing and fun environment for players.

As coaches and team staff, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the players in order to develop their individual skill and game sense.  We will strive to be competitive within the guidelines of the game and grow together as a team through the adage:  WIN AS A TEAM AND LOSE AS A TEAM. It is expected that players, all team officials, game officials, parents, and guardians will respect each other and work together to achieve the common objective.  We are determined to accomplish our objectives through proper communication, enthusiasm, dedication, discipline and positive reinforcement.  We are confident that the season will prove to be a rewarding experience for everyone associated with the Ted Reeve Hockey Association.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY - A value based coaching approach that include high levels of sportsmanship and fair play.

Our approach to instructing your aspiring young hockey player this season will follow a value-based coaching concept, which means teaching more than just techniques, drills and activities for players.  This involves teaching high levels of sportsmanship and fair play. This concept represents an important attempt to affect the values that should be driving all of the participants who support our great game.  We believe that hockey should be viewed as a platform through which important life lessons should be shared and reinforced.  Two main components of this coaching concept are:

RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY - Always interacting with each other in a respectful manner, taking ownership of our actions, and striving to set a positive example for others.

These two words denote values that we believe encompasses a wide range of attitudes and behaviours toward which we all should aspire.

By respect, we refer to the ability of all participants in the game consistently demonstrating a respectful attitude toward other people who are involved irrespective of their position.  This would include the reciprocal relationships that exist between players, coaches, managers, referees, parents, arena personel, team-mates and opponents.

By responsible, we refer to each individual being accountable for their actions and strive to set a good example for others.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS - Players and coaches act in a manner that promotes team values and responsibility.

Skill Development and Game Readiness:

The coaching staff expects the players to be ready and prepared to go on the ice 10 minutes prior to the scheduled ice time.  In return the coaching staff will use this time to meet with the players to discuss game/skill development stratagies and other  related topics.

Parents are asked not to stay in the dressing rooms before or after the skill development session/games, except to assist their child.  This assistance should be completed prior to the coaches addressing their team.  In doing so, you are giving your child the time needed to bond with their teammates, thus promoting confidence and creating a more sportsmanlike atmosphere amoungst the team.

It is highly encouraged that players make every effort to attend all games and Skill Development sessions.  You are on a team and the team needs you.  Absences that total 15% or more of the games may result in that player forfieting their position on the team.  Attendance will be strictly monitored by coaching staff and TRHA executives.

If a player is going to be absent from a game, we ask that you call in and leave a message for your coach.  This will assist your coach in preparing player ice times etc on game day.

Equipment:

Players are responsible for ensuring their skates are sharpened.  Having two hockey sticks available at games and Skill Development sessions is recommended.

Players will wear the uniform assigned to them by the team.  Failure to have the proper uniform and equipment may result in the player not being able to participate in the game/Skill Development session.

Under no circumstance will a player be on the ice without helmet, neck guard, mouth guard and other protective equipment.

ICE TIME - Equal amounts of ice time to be provided to players regardless of playing ability. An understanding that critical circumstances will affect ice time, but that coaches and players are forthcoming in ensuring an understanding of any changes.

The coaching staff is responsible for delegating player ice time, and their decisions are to be respected and followed.  If a player wishes to discuss a concern with the amount of time they have been given, they are to do so after the game and in private.  In certian situations, ice time will be dependent on critical game situations.  The coaching staff believes in equal ice time, but reserves the right to alter that format based on circumstances.  Changes in ice time for players will not exceed 25% of teams entire game schedule.

Ted Reeve operates a very successful Select program under the name of Ted Reeve Tornados.  Families will be asked to submit their interest in the Select program, when registering and whether they are interested in volunteering as a coach or manager. During the three week evaluation process, prior to the regular season, players will be assessed and select teams formulated.

How much experience does a player need?

We do not ask for prior hockey experience, but do ask that the child has one year of skating lessons under their belt.

About Skill Development!

We sincerely feel that fun is a byproduct of the success you experience performing a skill. Hockey is a very challenging sport and requires a tremendous amount of grit and grace. Ted Reeve has decided to bring on board the Beach Sports Academy as the official on ice trainer for the division from Tyke to Pee Wee, as well as our Girls Hockey program.

While we are appreciative of the many volunteer coaches, we sincerely feel that bringing aboard an establish hockey trainer from the community, will aid in your child’s development and thus his/hers enjoyment of the game. We want to develop the children’s confidence and make Ted Reeve the place to be on weekends, for outstanding hockey competition.
